A picture of me from nearly two decades ago unexpectedly appeared. It surprised me as I paused to carefully observe the girl in the image. It's a strange sensation to face your younger self. What stood out to me the most as I gazed at the picture was the desire for her to realize her beauty. I wished she understood that her value was immeasurable. I wished she knew that she didn't need to strive so much to be someone different. By simply being herself, she was destined to achieve remarkable things.
Self-worth is a universal struggle that I believe affects everyone. It involves the ability to love yourself unconditionally, regardless of the circumstances. Circumstances change but wherever you go, there you are. Embracing our imperfections as unique traits that define us is crucial for experiencing fulfillment. While I wish I had a magical solution to instantly boost self-worth, the reality is that it's a daily grind that requires effort. You must be ready to see yourself as you truly are and let go of what you are not. When I talk about seeing yourself, I don't just mean superficial observations like wrinkles, gray hairs, acne, or body shape. I mean looking in the mirror into your soul through your eyes. It may be challenging to maintain eye contact, but in that moment, you will see the real you – not the person you are trying to be or used to be. Can you see her? She's doing her best. She's courageous, beautiful, resilient, and kind. The world is a better place with her presence. Treat her as you would your best friend seeking advice – with kindness and compassion. Your thoughts about her shape her perspective on life and her potential achievements. Don't hinder her progress by holding her back. Believe in her worth, and she will rise to meet it.
At C&C, our goal is to build a community where women empower each other. It all begins with self-care and realizing our own self-worth. I encourage every reader to dedicate 30 seconds daily to look themselves in the eye and embrace yourself for all you are. By treating yourself with kindness, you will naturally extend that kindness to others. There is power in embracing self-worth and learning to accept yourself for you.
To my younger self, remember to take things slowly, as life moves swiftly. Enjoy the journey. You were beautiful then and you're still beautiful now.
